Kindergartners Visit a Local Teepee!

Mrs. Krzenski’s kindergarten class visited Joan and Jim Field to see the authentic teepee in their Springs backyard. Mrs. Field, who is a retired assistant teacher and currently a substitute at Springs School, helped the students make turkey feather headdresses with Native American symbols. Mr. Field appeared in Native American dress beating a drum and dancing. Then, all of the students sat in the teepee while Mr. Field burned sage to banish evil spirits and Mrs. Krzenski read a tree blessing. Following this ceremony, the students ate corn muffins with apple cider around the campfire. Finally, they circled with a goodbye circle squeeze and thanked the Fields for their wonderful day.
