Fifth graders traveled into the city recently to visit the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan, and the New York Hall of Science in Queens. The trip, which included transportation on the North Fork bus company, was funded by the SMARTS team (Springs Mystery ART Sale), and by a donation from The Art Barge in Amagansett. The trip was organized by art teachers Sherry Williams and Colleen McGowan. Students have been learning about artist Pablo Picasso and studying his sculptures. The MoMA is currently displaying his sculptures, so it was a wonderful experience for students to see this work up close! Back at school, students are creating their own sculptures based on this work of Picasso, and his use of multiple materials.
