Eighth graders in Ms. Farmer's Social Studies class have been learning about World War I. Last week, they learned how the United States turned the tide of the Great War (World War I), and they even acted out the major battles in order to understand what trench warfare was. "Students learned the causes of World War I and how the U.S. became involved," said Ms. Farmer. "They also learned about the Christmas Truce, which was when England and Germany put down their weapons on Christmas Eve to celebrate the holiday together." For their "battle," students separated to different sides in the classroom and hid behind their desks, which acted as trenches, and began reenacting a wartime fight.
