Boys' Volleyball Going Strong

The boys' volleyball team won their game against Westhampton Beach on February 29th. This is their fourth win! The "A" squad" lost the first set, but the "B" squad came back to win the second set; which seemed to inspire the "A" squad to earn a win the second time they played in the third set. The "B" squad then won the match by winning the fourth set. They played the fifth set to get all players in.

Alfredo Chavez (8th grade) led the servers with 12 serves. He was closely followed by seventh grader Colin Wright with 11 serves, eighth grader Nick Wyche with 10 serves, eighth graders Jarred Luna with 9 serves, eighth grader Zed Albertini with 8 serves to shorten Westhampton's lead in the first set. Eighth graders Nick Esquivel and Andy Ngo with 7 serves and 6 serves, respectively, during key moments of the game.

Eighth grader Logan Gurney led the unreturned spikes or kills, with 7 of them. Followed by Nick Esquivel with 4.

"The boys played together and communicated on the court to effectively comeback after a loss and get the win," said Assistant Coach Ana Jacobs. "They did it together."

That game against Westhampton followed another win against East Moriches the week before. In that game, they won three sets in a row which meant they won the match, but continued to play a 4th and 5th to get everyone to play. Eighth grader Nick Esquivel topped the list of servers with 17 serves. Followed by eighth graders Logan Gurney, Zed Albertini, Brian Usma, with 6 serves each. Eighth graders Nicholas Wyche, Aaron Clark, and seventh grader David Ayala with 5 serves each. Eighth graders Nicholas Wyche, Aaron Clark, and Jeremy Vizcaino had two unreturned spikes each. The team is coached by Mark McKee.
