Springs School held its second annual Spelling Bee on January 8th! The competition was organized by English teacher Mrs. O'Reilly and Assistant Principal Ms. Cleary. The Bee was open to students in grades sixth, seventh and eighth. Fourteen students made it through the qualifying round to compete in this week's Bee, which resulted in one winner who will be competing in the regional spelling bee at Hofstra University on February 4th. The first place winner was Nichole Lopez! Second place was Gabby Miller, and third place went to Hamlet Jimenez.  Last year's winner, Kevin Chabla, who is now a ninth grader at the high school, presented the trophy to Nichole.

These spelling competitions are part of the Scripp's National Spelling Bee Program, now in its 90th year. The winner of the Regional Bee wins a spot at Nationals in Washington, DC.! Last year, Kevin Chabla placed 2nd at Regionals out of 150 competitors from around Long Island. Kevin is responsible for bringing the Bee to Springs School! Visit for more information.
