Junior High students recently participated in "MathCon." MathCon is a national math competition sponsored by Concept Schools and The University of Illinois at Chicago. The competition is open to students in Grades 5-12.

Springs School had 102 Springs School students (Grades 6-8) participate this year.  Of the 102, ten students scored in the 85-95 percentile as compared to their grade level peers across the country.  These students are:  Kevin Chabla, Brody Eggert, Hannah Hartsough, Rorey Murphy, Evan Mendelman (8th Grade), Andy Merchan (7th Grade), and Chloe Swickard, Natasha Chavez, Gabby Miller and Jamie Grant (6th Grade).

Two students scored in the 99% percentile as compared to their grade level peers across the country and qualified as Alternates for the finals in Chicago.  Those students are Morgan Grant (8th Grade) and Thomas Vilar (7th Grade).

The competition consists of two rounds.  In Round One, students must complete 40 challenging math questions in 40 minutes.  This is the round that our students participated in.  Round Two is held in Chicago in late April.  This year, only the top 576 (out of 49,658 students who competed in Round One) made it to Round Two.

"We are so proud of all the students who participated," said Assistant Principal Ms. Cleary.  "Sincere thanks go out to their parents and our wonderful math teachers as well. Congratulations!"
