Springs School has its first Lego League team! The Lego League is a forum where "tomorrow's innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork." "These League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution," explained Mr. Scala. Ms. Pannizzo and Mr. Scala are Lego League Coordinators/Coaches. Here is a video clip describing the program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qeBFeFyYp0&feature=youtu.be

The Springs School team is made up of nine fifth grade students. The students meet with Ms. Pannizzo three times a week for one period to research a real world problem and develop a solution. Through their work, the students learn about coding, robotics, and engineering. Students also meet about once a week after-school with both Ms. Pannizzo and Mr. Scala to continue their work. "It takes a deep commitment, and a good deal of time to participate," said Mr. Scala.

Students design, build, and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology, then compete on a table-top playing field. It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem.
