Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Staff:

As students across the country stage walkouts on March 14th in response to the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Springs School is planning its own organized event to support student and staff sentiment. The event is intended more to memorialize the lives lost in the Florida shooting, as well as assure students their safety is a priority.

On March 14 at 10:00 a.m.– the day most planned student walkouts are scheduled to happen – the district’s sanctioned event will allow students in grades 5 through 8 to leave their classroom together for 17 minutes, in honor of the 17 students and school staff killed in last month’s shooting. Student Council Leaders along with the administration worked together to provide an opportunity for students to be involved in this event as many of the actions organized in the wake of the Parkland shooting across the nation have been student-led.

Students will congregate in the school’s courtyard to plant flowers, make statements, read poetry and reflect with a moment of silence. We ask that students wear white that day. This event is intended to be an organized, respectful event focused on kindness. This will be a closed event. Meaning, only students and staff will be participating. The district will be asking local law enforcement to participate in the event to show that our schools are safe and show that we’re a community.

We appreciate your understanding and support of this initiative on behalf of our students and staff. Students who do not wish to participate will have an option to do so. We ask that parents send a notice to their child’s teacher and to Ms. Cleary at If you have any questions, please let us know.
