On Friday night, students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members gathered at the Springs School to celebrate the new school year with a night to remember. As the sun lowered in the sky, we shared plenty of food, we played games, and we talked with each other about our days, our summers, and the school year ahead. The highlight for many was seeing our teachers being dropped into a tub of water in the dunking booth at the hands of students with good aim! Our superintendent Debra Winter was the first one to volunteer and the first one to get dunked! For others, the highlight of the night was getting the chance to share in conversations. Many students remarked that they enjoyed the chance to spend time with their friends who are not in their classes but are still in their school community. Students had the chance to spend time with their siblings' friends. Parents and grandparents had the chance to meet their children's teachers and friends too. One mother of a new Kindergarten student described how her daughter comes home every day more and more confident than the day before: "She is engaged. That is the best word that I can think of to describe her. I see that and I feel confident sending her to school." As the sun set, with our bellies full, we gathered to watch a movie on the lawn. Ultimately, the Welcome Back Barbecue gave the school community a chance to meet and celebrate this great big family that is the Springs School community.

Many thanks to the PTA for an incredible night!
