Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Community,

It has been an amazing year for Springs School. As I reflect on the past year, some of my fondest memories include my time spent in classrooms reading to children, listening to speeches and observing learning in some of the most creative ways, as well as participating in the district’s new NYS Mentoring program and SEL program.

The district implemented Second Step, a social and emotional learning (SEL) program that is research-based, teacher-informed and classroom-tested to promote the social-emotional development, safety and well-being of children from early learning through grade 8. Our mental health staff and health teacher provided support in the classrooms, all staff were trained, and a common language was used this year to support this initiative. More about this program can be found here: www.secondstep.org/second-step-social-emotional-learning.

As always, our PTA rocked with the Welcome Back BBQ, the incredible Turkey Trot fundraiser of $20,000 for K-4 swimming lessons at the YMCA, field trips, book fairs, gingerbread houses, and Green and White Days.

I would also like to extend a special thank-you to our extremely dedicated Board of Education for supporting not only our academic programs, but all of our athletic, music and art programs as well. We’re also grateful for their approval to fund an additional 36-40 prekindergarten students for the 2019-20 school year in district.

Last year, we welcomed several new teachers who did an amazing job not only teaching, but also getting involved in extracurricular activities. Thank you to all our staff for giving our students an amazing school year filled with memories and friendship.

Our construction project is underway, with a new roof and nitrogen-reducing septic system being installed this summer. Our plans for Phase 2, which includes our new gym, fields and classrooms, have been submitted to the NYS Education Department for approval.

I want to encourage all of our students to read throughout the summer. Our library will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., from July 1 to August 10.

As we say farewell to the 2018-19 academic year, I want to wish all students, staff members and families a safe, healthy and enjoyable summer!
