Health educator Mrs. Nicoletti from the Hamptons Wellness Foundation has been visiting kindergarten classes, teaching students about making healthy food choices, and making smart decisions when shopping with their parents for food. "They were all very surprised to learn how many bad things are in the food they eat every day," said Ms. Salgado. The Hamptons Wellness Foundation runs this nutrition program, called "Healthy Food for Life," for grades kindergarten, third and sixth. In addition to in-classroom lessons, students also learn how to prepare food and enjoy tastings, as well. Students are usually surprised to learn that the delicious brownie they just ate was actually made from black beans! At the end of the program, the Wellness Foundation hosts an evening where parents are invited to come in and learn about making healthy, affordable meals together with their children.
