Junior high students took part in HMEA this past weekend. HMEA (Hamptons Music Educators Association) is an organization that puts on a high school and junior high-level festival for students in towns from Center Moriches to Montauk. Springs School students participated in the band, chorus, and world drumming ensembles. In order to participate, students had to have performed in the NYSSMA solo festival, be nominated by their music teacher, and be accepted into the festival. "HMEA is an important opportunity for our students because it connects our student musicians with other young musicians throughout the East End," said music teacher Ms. Modica. "It promotes a high level of musicianship and provides an opportunity for students to participate in an ensemble with a higher difficulty level than in their school ensembles."
