Springs School Receives Donation of "Blessings in a Backpack"

Springs School was recently the recipient of a $3,500 grant from United Healthcare to provide students with "Blessings in a Backpack." In addition to the grant, the community has rallied and Springs School also received contributions from community members. The program is a national 501c organization that was brought to the school by Superintendent Mrs. Winter. The backpacks will provide food for 50 children each weekend who otherwise would go hungry. Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Flemming and Assemblyman Fred Thiele were present for the ceremony.

Springs School employees Stefany Gomez and Cindy Realmuto have volunteered to serve as coordinators for the Springs chapter.

Mrs. LaMonda’s  Functional Academics class will pack the backpacks each week.

A $150 contribution will pay for one year of weekend meals for one child.

"Thank you to each one of you for your generous donation," said Mrs. Winter.

"The motto of  Springs School is, “Together We Make a Difference,” and it could not be more true as the Springs Blessing in a Backpack Chapter would not have been possible without all of you," she added.

Donations can be made by mailing to Springs School, 48 School St, East Hampton, NY 11937 ATTN: Blessings in a Backpack. Checks may be made out to "Blessings in a Backpack" with "Springs Chapter" in the memo line. Thank you for helping our children!
