Sixth grade students in Mr. DeHavenon and Mrs. DiGiorgi's E.L.A. class participated in a debate this week. Students had to take a side on a topic, research it, and come up with a claim. They then had to defend their claim by citing evidence to support it. Each student had a chance to speak in front of the class, and even defend their side even more by using rebuttals. "It was great practice on the importance of supporting your opinion with evidence," said Mrs. DiGiorgi. "It's a life skill!" Topics included: Should zoos be banned, should parents help kids with homework, and if sports fans go too far when they're watching games.
